Bing Putney

Hi. My name is Bing Putney, and I am a portrait photographer. My job is simple, but not easy. My job is to capture genuine, honest moments and translate those moments into engaging images. To create these images, I've cultivated a solid understanding of the technical aspects of photography, from composition to lighting to post-processing. That's the easy part. The challenging, and rewarding part of my job is working with my clients to capture authentic expressions that resonate with people. To elicit these types of expressions, I create a relaxed, comfortable environment, provide careful direction, and work to create a genuine connection between subject and camera. When all of these things come together, the resulting imagery is truly remarkable.

And in case you're curious, here's a little bit about my background. I grew up in North Carolina, where my two primary interests were acting and photography. I was lucky enough to have parents and teachers who helped to nourish my artistic curiosity throughout high school, and when it came time to go to college, I decided to study acting. I attended Emerson College in Boston and received my BFA. When graduation neared, I, and all of my friends, were suddenly in need of headshots, and I was able to dust off my old camera gear and start shooting again. To be perfectly honest, those first headshots were atrocious. I did not know what I was doing. But, as I continued working to build my career as an actor, I found time to take more pictures, work with other photographers, and further educate myself on the craft. I began shooting professionally in New York in 2008, and moved by business to Los Angeles shortly thereafter. As time passed, my focus shifted from acting to full time photography, and while I still learn something new every day, I've come a long way since those first awkward pictures on the Boston Common.
